Simpson Bay, St. Maarten - Netherlands Antilles - 06/04/2008
Bamboo Bernie’s, a well known high-end restaurant and sushi bar in Sint Maarten, has completed its move from the Caravanserai Resort area to the Sonesta Maho Arcade. DineSXM staff attended Bernie’s pre-opening dress rehearsal night on June 2nd for a tour of the establishment and a sampling from the restaurant’s new menu.
Our congratulations go out to owner Jimmy Goldman and his staff, who have created a true eye-catcher and sure hit in the busy Maho area. We couldn’t help noticing the manager of a neighboring steakhouse walking by the restaurant more than once to take a sneak peek inside…
The new venue features a South-East Asian theme, including a semi-private lounge and fully stocked bar that is open until late at night. Life-size Buddha statues, Indonesian sculptures, tropical hardwood furniture, a colorfully lit waterfall, and floor to ceiling fringe panels separating the bar and lounge area, are centerpieces of Bamboo Bernie’s stylish décor. The sushi bar has received a prominent location that spans the tastefully illuminated far end wall of the establishment.
Relaxing ambient grooves from nu-jazz and down-tempo artists such as St. Germain, Jazzanova, Kruder & Dorfmeister and Boards of Canada are piped softly through the ceiling speakers. According to Goldman, Maho needs a venue where people are able to communicate when they have dinner or sit at a bar: “let them meet at the piano bar, and then come here for cocktails and conversation,” he adds with a smile.
Bamboo Bernie’s restaurant and sushi bar is one of the more than thirty St. Maarten and St. Martin restaurants that are featured on the DineSXM reservations and dining guide. The website (http://www.dinesxm.com) enables residents and visitors of the island to browse restaurant profiles that include menu suggestions, directions and guest reviews. Dining establishments on the DineSXM website also allow their guests to make free confirmed restaurant bookings online.
